Barnt Green Parish Council consists of eight members elected for a four-year term of office. If a member leaves mid-term their vacant seat is advertised and if there is no call for a by-election the vacancy is filled by co-option. Whether elected mid-term or co-opted, that member’s term of office ends at the same time as all elected members. The date of the next election for all eight seats will be May 2027.
There are no vacancies at the moment, however they do occur from time to time. An application form and brief information on the role is available here if you feel you would like to help serve your community in the future as a Parish Councillor, or contact the Executive Officer for more information.
All parish councillors are required to follow the Members’ Code of Conduct, to ensure compliance with the requirements of holding public office. The Code requires members to register their interests* along with those of their spouse or partner and this register is published online by the District Council as well as below. *’Interests’ relate to their employment, ownership of land, and business interests within the parish.
From time to time a parish council member might have a greater link to the subject under discussion than any other member, in which case they may need to declare an interest, and depending on the nature of the interest they may be required to leave the meeting for that item. Occasionally the member may seek a dispensation to stay in the meeting to discuss an item for which they have declared an interest, in which case they will fill in this Dispensation Request form.
